Teaser Image

Man does time fly.....

It is official that filming will commence on August 27th and 28th for round one of the film. As the days begin creeping up on my and my fantastic crew, things are beginning to take shape. Over the past few weeks, we have been lucky enough to stumble upon some of our props at flea markets and my parents home. Now while we still have plenty more to dig up and build I thought it would be nice to get a simple little shot to help drive home the feel of this film.

Check back soon to see the rest of the cast revealed!

The Film

So I failed to realize that I haven't given out much information about "Curiouser" as a film..... Let's chalk that up to the insane amount of distractions currently going on!

So what exactly is "Curiouser" about?

Plot: A somewhat familiar girl struggles to find her place in the world. As the seeds planted in her youth begin to take over her conscious thought, her mind splinters and a battle of duality ensues. The answers and resolution to this lies back down the rabbit hole in this nightmarish follow-up to Lewis Carroll's masterpiece, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

This short film takes inspiration from not only Lewis Carroll's work, but also from writers such as Chuck Palahniuk and American McGee.

This film really focuses on what happens when you become trapped in a world that doesn't exist. It's a common theme that is happening in our world today with people getting lost in the world of online gaming, TV and book series, and films. We as a society tend to create a alternate perception of ourselves, and these entertainment outlets give us a chance to explore them and build a world for them to live in. While I don't see any problems with people breaking away from the daily grind and sinking in to a special place to unwind, certain people forget escapism does has a fine line at some point. I think this film is a culmination of what happens when that line is crossed, shattered, and blown to hell and back.......

I think what makes this story so much fun for me is this is just one of my interpretations...... I have several more I could regale you with, but that is something for another time!

I think it's important that people try to view this story from their perspective. To some, they may just see Alice all grown up and struggling with a world without imagination. Some will see this as a loss of innocence, some will see this as a case of fangirl gone mad (like myself), and then some just come for the blood!

The film is slated to begin shooting this August, and I hope that when it is complete it will be a Alice in Wonderland story that will stick with you for a long time!

Updates!

My apologies for the lack of updates the past few weeks, as the upcoming benefit show for the film has been taking up a nice chuck of my time outside of my normal 9-5 work days.

A great deal has been happening behind the scenes for "Curiouser". Our team has finally pinned down a location to use for auditions, so once we hammer out dates, and I get a little more paperwork done we will well be on our way to find our Alice.

Aside from the casting front, I'm also happy to say that yesterday a good friend of mine and myself spent the bulk of our day designing a silk screen to begin pressing t-shirts for the upcoming show on April 7th. Thankfully after a few issues making our screens, I think we have one set that will hold up for the long term so we can continues to print them well after the show and leading up to the premier of the film. Since the official logo of the film has yet to be revealed, I thought I'd give you all a little peak at the final design and what I'll be spending the bulk of next weekend pressing on roughly 30 shirts. Thanks again, to Amanda Devine for all the hard work she did on this, and to Veronica Rhodes for the teapot drawling.

Tonight I'll be getting a chance to sit down with my make-up artist as we sit down and let the creative juices flow to see what insane designs we come up with as well. There is some talk that we may be building some prosthetics tonight as well, which if that does truly end up happening I'll make sure to get some shots and post them here tomorrow. Now bare in mind they may not all be Curiouser related, as a small batch of my team members are also planning to attend this year's Zombie Crawl in Philadelphia.

To give you a little taste of just what we can do, and what level of effects work you can expect to see in the film I tossed below a few shots of some work that Lauren and I have done in the past. Enjoy the shots, and don't forget to get your tickets to the big event on April 7th at The Note. www.thenotewc.com

A little tease.

While I have a ton of art to upload to here, I thought I'd share a quick piece now that was drawn by "Curiouser" editor Tom Callahan. Plenty more to come!

Curiouser & Curiouser

Curiouser, as some of you may already know is the first project being handled by Red Queen's Revenge. What most of you don't know was actually had this project even came to be.

Now this little project has been stewing around in my head for a few years now, and honestly is bares little similarity to what it started out as. This whole thing was actually never even meant to be a film, as it's roots started out with me having some twisted idea to attempt to write a crossover story involving "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz". So I started piecing together what would be this huge elaborate story of the fall of Wonderland and it's rebirth, which would transform it in to the land of Oz as we know it from the children's stories. I started making some dents in a outline, where Alice's downfalls actually were the catalyst in the tragic destruction of the world and throughout the story she would be seeking her redemption. Sadly, the concept just got tucked back in the corner of my mind and collected dust.

Other goofy projects started jumping in my head as friends and I joked about doing a horror film. I think we eventually plateaued when our final idea was to do a film called "Zombie Vampires at Bikini Beach"..... No, I'm really not kidding. We actually got to the point of coming up with a retarded story in outline form, and started discussing the logistics of shooting this abortion of a "B" movie. Tastefulness prevailed.

Not too long after all of these events, my fiancée's good friend invited the two of us to her film premier in Philadelphia to see the debut of her short film "Pisces". I was totally blown away, and as much as I hate to admit I was also insanely jealous that someone I knew had actually made a film before me. This was the kick in the ass I needed, and literally within minutes of her film ending I got a pen and paper from my fiancée and began to write. Alice was front and center in my thoughts, and as my opening line hit the page "Curiouser" was born.

Later this week, I'll have a nice little spread and some other fun little things to share all about the film. Stay tuned!

Where did Red Queen come from?

First off, Thanks for coming to learn a little bit about us!

Now that the pleasantries are past us, on to the meat and potatoes of it all......

Red Queen was just recently born in the past several months, but it's been a idea lingering in my head for a good long while. It's roots really begin around 20 years ago when I first saw Jaws when I was a little kid. I still remember so vividly sitting on the floor of my family room one night and low and behold upon changing the channel I stumbled on seeing sharks on the old boob tube. Me being probably about 6 years old at the time immediately thought "Oh cool! Sharks. I love sharks!!!!", and then I sat there for roughly 15 minutes and saw someone plucked out of the water. I was terrified. I also did what any other 7 year old kid would probably do when seeing a blood bath for the first time, I turned off the TV and proceeded to have nightmares for weeks on end.

I think a good deal of us remember that first horror movie we watched, and we remember the impact it had on us. I also think for most people, nothing seems to scare them quite as much as that first one. I still don't remember a movie tweaking my mind as bad, or leaving such a lasting impact. Hell to this day, I still get tweaked out when Ben Gardner's head pops up when Hooper is checking out the boat wreck.....

My love for horror only got bigger and bigger, and in my teens I knew what I wanted to do with my life: I wanted to scare someone, and more importantly on the silver screen.

Thankfully over my life, I met a ton of amazing individuals who were not only twisted, but also incredibly talented. Now not all of them maybe as invested in horror as I am, but we do all share the most important goal, which is to create that one little moment on film that just sticks with you forever.
