Now that the pleasantries are past us, on to the meat and potatoes of it all......
Red Queen was just recently born in the past several months, but it's been a idea lingering in my head for a good long while. It's roots really begin around 20 years ago when I first saw Jaws when I was a little kid. I still remember so vividly sitting on the floor of my family room one night and low and behold upon changing the channel I stumbled on seeing sharks on the old boob tube. Me being probably about 6 years old at the time immediately thought "Oh cool! Sharks. I love sharks!!!!", and then I sat there for roughly 15 minutes and saw someone plucked out of the water. I was terrified. I also did what any other 7 year old kid would probably do when seeing a blood bath for the first time, I turned off the TV and proceeded to have nightmares for weeks on end.
I think a good deal of us remember that first horror movie we watched, and we remember the impact it had on us. I also think for most people, nothing seems to scare them quite as much as that first one. I still don't remember a movie tweaking my mind as bad, or leaving such a lasting impact. Hell to this day, I still get tweaked out when Ben Gardner's head pops up when Hooper is checking out the boat wreck.....
My love for horror only got bigger and bigger, and in my teens I knew what I wanted to do with my life: I wanted to scare someone, and more importantly on the silver screen.
Thankfully over my life, I met a ton of amazing individuals who were not only twisted, but also incredibly talented. Now not all of them maybe as invested in horror as I am, but we do all share the most important goal, which is to create that one little moment on film that just sticks with you forever.
